NYC Service Volunteerism Personas
The Viney Group partnered with NYC Service and community-based organizations to better understand volunteer participation in Flushing, Queens. Through a qualitative research process, Viney conducted interviews with local residents who actively volunteer, as well as residents who were not currently engaged in volunteer activities.
The study was designed to uncover the personal backgrounds, motivations, barriers, and community experiences that shape volunteer participation. Viney supported the project from research planning through final deliverables, including interview question development, participant response tracking, interpreter coordination, interview logistics, and the facilitation of 20–25 interviews across multiple age groups.
Following the interviews, Viney coded responses, identified key themes, and developed a series of volunteer personas and profiles. These personas helped NYC Service and its community partners better understand the challenges and opportunities for civic engagement in the target neighborhood and provided practical insights to inform future volunteer recruitment, outreach, and engagement strategies.
NYC Service Legacy Report
The Viney Group worked with NYC Service to develop a comprehensive legacy report documenting the agency’s activities, accomplishments, and performance from 2009 to 2021. The report was designed to capture more than a decade of civic engagement work, highlighting key programs, measurable outcomes, agency milestones, and the broader impact of NYC Service’s volunteerism initiatives across New York City.
Viney supported the project through a structured writing and editorial process that included stakeholder engagement, report planning, content organization, data review, and narrative development. Working closely with NYC Service leadership and program directors, Viney helped determine the report’s format, audience, key messages, program highlights, and supporting materials.
The final deliverable included a fully written and proofread report in Microsoft Word, complete with a title page, table of contents, introduction, key findings, program summaries, conclusion, and executive summary. The process also included multiple rounds of revisions to ensure the final report was clear, professional, comprehensive, and aligned with the agency’s goals.
